Live
Music direction is a different job from producing a record. One take, one running order, no undo. Scores written, parts voiced, bands rehearsed, playback rigs built and technical direction held together on the night.
Score & arrangement
Full written parts for the ensemble, strings, brass, folk instruments and vocals scored before anyone walks into a rehearsal room. The arrangement is a document, not an idea.
Band direction
Casting the players, running rehearsals and translating a studio production into something a live band can hold for the length of a show.
Playback & click
Stems, click, in-ear mixes and redundancy. On a stadium or broadcast stage the rig has to fail safely, not fail loudly.
Technical direction
Line checks, monitor world, timecode against lighting and camera cues and the running order that keeps a live broadcast on the second.
Broadcast mix
What the room hears and what the broadcast carries are two different mixes. Both get built.
